Acoustic Emissions Systems to

Aid in your evaluations

What is acoustic Emission testing?

Acoustic emission testing is a nondestructive test (NDT) method that "listens" to the stresses and strains going on in an object. By having multiple sensors the points of origin of any anomalies can be located in an object.

A common application is for testing pressure vessels. By listening while it is being pressurized or under pressure, potential flaws in the vessel can be identified, before they transition to a failure. This is particularly useful in cyclical pressure cycles.

expertise and Experience

At Box Elder Innovations we offer our decades of experience and expertise in solving your NDT and sensor measurement needs. BEI designs NDT systems for a variety of material applications including composite materials, metals, ceramics, particulate filled polymeric materials, and other complex material systems of interest. We provide motion control systems, data acquisition hardware, signal generation and conditioning, and system software. Our software includes advanced signal processing and data analysis tools.

Acoustic Emissions
testing provides many potential benefits, such as:
  • material characterization in terms of manufacturing defects, impact damage, and material properties including measurement of elastic properties and fiber direction in composite materials
  • locating and identifying types of defects
  • measuring and tracking of material properties using statistical process control (SPC) practices for providing a history of product quality
  • supporting failure investigations
  • supporting development and verification of materials and processes for providing verification of product quality and process reliability
